There are no special requirements with regard to instruments but if rubber buckled straps are removed and replaced with shock cord kitting up is much quicker and easier, and the instruments are more secure. In the photo below all straps have been replaced. Shaun here has his knife and depth gauge mounted on the same shock cord, and his computer in the same place. Open water divers often comment that it's odd to wear a knife on the arm but this is standard practice for cave divers. It's out of the way but easily accessible with the lanyard already around the wrist so it can't be dropped when deployed.

All instrument, knife and slate straps removed and replaced with shock cord loops. More secure, quicker and easier to kit up.
