Diving from a Kayak is pretty much like diving from a RIB or other dive boat. The main difference is you have to be organised and it's advisable to use lighter weight kit and not junk yourself up with a load of unnessesary add-ons. Kayaks: Plastic Sit-on-tops are the usual choice. With regard to design the prerequisits for these are... Ocean Kayak produce an few suitable models some of which were designed with diving in mind. The primary one was the Scrambler XT but this has undergone varios design changes (some for better, some for worse) but this has now been discontinued. Some kayaks have sealable hatches in the bow which are great for stowing gear.... Curtec Barrels:- These are available in a range of sizes from 3.5L to 68L but the two that are of most applicable are the 3.5L and the 6.4L. These will fit through most hatches or can be secured to the deck.
